Adapt CNY, Inc. is an outgrowth of the 2004 inaugural 40 Below Summit. The summit, held in Syracuse, New York, brought together over 630 young professionals living and working in the Central New York region. During the 40 Below Summit there was a persistent theme among participants requesting the redevelopment of vacant and underutilized buildings and green spaces within the City of Syracuse. Out of the suggestions from the 40 Below Summit, the Adaptive Re-Use Task Force was created in March 2005 to address the requests and suggestions generated by the Summit.
During the months that followed, a group ranging in size from 50 to 25 met on a bi-weekly basis and engaged in a dialogue about the redevelopment of Syracuse with a particular focus on the downtown district. These volunteers come from all walks of life and with various professional backgrounds including, but not limited to, engineers, architects, designers, contractors, those involved in real estate development, health care professionals, service industry employees, and accountants. These volunteers spent many hours in dialogue with community leaders, developers and other community stakeholders in the redevelopment process. The Adaptive Re-Use Task Force came to the conclusion that to achieve its re-development goals, it would be necessary to form a legal entity with not for profit status. As a result, the Corporation was formed on December 12, 2005.
Adapt CNY works with existing developers to facilitate the redevelopment of blighted areas within downtown Syracuse as well as pursue the potential acquisition and redevelopment of property.
